Construction continues at KRHCWith the three-story addition project at Kossuth Regional Health Center progressing past the six--month mark, construction remains to be on track and on time. With the addition now standing three stories high, other ground level projects have also been going on - including parking lot improvements on the north side of the hospital, next to the cemetery. “One major task on our list was to install a new water line under the grounds of our main staff parking lot. Once work began on this project we needed to determine temporary parking for nearly 90 staff vehicles with a minimal impact on the number of parking spaces available for patients or visitors,” said KRHC administrator Scott Curtis. A grass parking lot was established on the south side of the KRHC clinic, but recent weather conditions prevented this space from being usable. Another temporary gravel parking lot was put into use earlier in the summer. Employees have also been parking across the street in select areas of the Kossuth County Fairgrounds. “Our employees are very sensitive to the needs of our patients, and fully understood the need to allow for as many patient parking spots as possible. This didn’t leave a lot of options for us on campus, so we had to look offsite to find sufficient space for employee parking,” Curtis said. “The fairground space was ideal, so we’re very thankful to the fair board for helping us with this.” An employee shuttle brings KRHC employees back and forth to the fairgrounds parking lot, due to the high level of traffic on Highway 169. “We encourage employees to take the shuttle, rather than walk across the highway, for their own safety. I’d also like to encourage people driving on 169 to consider slowing down a bit when going past the KRHC campus and keeping an extra sharp eye out for people crossing the street,” Curtis said.
