Kossuth Growing Healthy Kids
The Kossuth Growing Healthy Kids program is committed to supporting parents so that they may give their children the best gift of all – a loving and nurturing family.
The Kossuth Growing Healthy Kids program is a free, home visiting program for expectant and new parents. By using quality services utilizing evidence-based outcomes, the goal of the program is to promote:
- Positive parent-child interaction
- Child health and development
- Family coping and learning with new baby
Kossuth Growing Healthy Kids helps families experience success by providing information and education about babies and children and what to expect of them.
During a typical home visit we:
- Assess normal growth and development, baby’s height and weight
- Screen for normal activities children do at certain ages
- Discuss nutrition:
- Bottle feeding/breastfeeding
- Baby cereal – when to introduce and how much
- Baby food – different stages
- Assess elimination/number of wet and poopy diapers
- Immunizations – where and when to get them
- Encouraged to keep baby on schedule for routine baby visits with doctor
- Teach about bath time
- Inform about daycare
- Education on birth control options
- Hazards of smoking
- Car seats
- Encourage floor time for baby
- Assess family support system/relationships
- Help with accessing local services and resources such as WIC, Care Team, AEA8, DHS, Title 19 and the Food Pantry
