The Midwest Rural Telemedicine Consortiumm (MRTC) is a joint program of Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa and Mercy Medical Center - Des Moines, the two hubs. The MRTC project was developed in 1993 and now includes 38 sites in northern and south central Iowa. Using fiber optic technology, the MRTC provides immediate communication between rural and urban health centers to provide health care services, professional and community education, and administrative conferencing. This program helps share information rapidly, with the potential to improve patient outcomes.
